Actor Choi Woo Shik is known for his roles in the famous films Train to Busan, Okja, and Parasite. He’s also starred in popular K-Dramas like Rooftop Prince, Fight for My Way, and Our Beloved Summer. However, acting wasn’t originally part of Choi Woo Shik’s plans.
During his appearance on Live Talk Show Taxi, the actor revealed how an ex-girlfriend turned everything around for him.
Regarding his love life, Choi Woo Shik admitted, “When I date someone, it usually lasts a long time.” When host Oh Man Seok asked for the typical length of his relationships, Choi Woo Shik surprised him and his Hogu’s Love co-star Uee.
The actor shared the many years he dated his last girlfriend: “Five years.” Choi Woo Shik also revealed, “In a way, I started acting because of her.”
During Choi Woo Shik’s time in Canada, he’d been focused on the art of producing. His ex-girlfriend opened his eyes to a completely different path. Noticing a trend among Korean actors that Choi Woo Shik fit into, she sparked the idea for him to try acting.
I wanted to study producing while in Canada, but she told me, ‘People without double eyelids are trending right now. People like Rain and Lee Jun Ki are all the craze.’ I thought that it wouldn’t be bad to learn how to act before getting into producing.

His ex-girlfriend had been the one to kickstart his acting career—as part of a whim that became reality. Choi Woo Shik said, “So, as a joke, she submitted me in an online audition. And I was cast, so I ended up coming to Korea.”
Because Choi Woo Shik missed out on studying producing, host Lee Young Ja wondered if he ever “[regretted] coming to Korea.” He felt the complete opposite. Choi Woo Shik was thankful for his ex-girlfriend and tried to repay her support.

If Choi Woo Shik’s ex-girlfriend hadn’t submitted his audition, he might not have become the actor he is today.
